If you have ever had bad breath or halitosis, you will remember wanting nothing more than to rid halitosis and get it out of your life. Fortunately, there are a few key things you can do to reduce your halitosis.
One of the main things you can do to rid halitosis is to brush your teeth more. By brushing your teeth you are cleaning away the oral bacteria in your mouth. The oral bacteria is what actually gives you halitosis. The most important thing to remember when trying to clean this oral bacteria is to clean your tounge. The majority of the oral bacteria in your mouth is on your tounge. You need to ensure you are getting as much junk of your tounge as possible. Also important is to ensure that you are cleaning all the excess food from your mouth. You can imagine that day old food would start to smell.
Something else to try when trying to rid halitosis, is to keep your mouth moisturised. Often, dry mouth can cause bad breath. When there is a lack of moisture in the mouth, the oral bacteria mentioned previously begins to build up. This causes halitosis. However, simply by rehydrating the mouth with moisture, the saliva can wash away this oral bacteria and therefore cleans the mouth of bad breath. Antoher possible way to rid halitosis is to cut back on protein. Foods that are high in protein can often cause halitosis, foods such as chicken or steak. By just cutting out one or two meals a weeek, dramatic changes can be achieved.
If wearing dentures, as about 20 percent of people with bad breath do, it is important to clean them when trying to rid halitosis. There is no point keeping the mouth hydrated, cleaning the tounge and cutting back on protein if yor dentures are filled with rotten food. If anything dentures should be cleaned more than teeth, due to the unatural feeling of having them at first. Moreover, it is much easier for bits of food to become lodged in between dentures and your gums.
